Oh Deer...

We were in the Hualapai Mountains in Kingman this weekend for a picnic when this little fella came in looking for a treat. Riley would have jumped in her back and ridden her home if we would have let her. Then a bee attacked me in the end on account that I was wearing a bright yellow shirt.

T is for Tuesday......and Terrific.

Today is Tuesday, but not just any Tuesday. Today the Bookmobile came to town. There are no libraries here in Wikieup, not even at the school. So Maycie and I went down to the post office parking lot and returned our old books and loaded up on new ones. The bookmobile carries a surprising amount of racy romance novels. These sassy Wikieup women, Ill tell you what. Maycie reaping the rewards of the bookmobile.

Also my new best friend, the Schwanns man should be stopping by my house. He had better bring the strawbery shortcake crunch bars I pre ordered, last time he gave us the shaft. I know it is pathetic that the busiest day of my week is the bookmobile and theSchwanns man, but now I know tomorrow will be busy eating delicious frozen treats and reading outside in the sun.

The Ya Ya Sisterhood

At our house Riley is known as YaYa. That is what Maycie calls her and eventually we all started calling her that, even Riley refers to herself using this new name. Every morning I wake up to the baby monitor with Maycie yelling, "Yaya, UP UP" after about 10 times Riley will pull herself out of bed and help Maycie out of hers. She will carry her into my bedroom, Maycie clinging to her like a baby monkey.

Yaya is Maycie's leader. Maycie sneaks into her underwear drawer and secretly puts on her under roos, if Riley wears a dress then a dress for Maycie too, please. Riley is the finder of lost blankies, the comfort after a fall and the protector from a sword yielding brother.

My favorite part of the day is when we take Coulter to school in the afternoon. We wait by the cafeteria for the kids to come to lunch, Maycie will not budge. When the kids come in to sight Maycie will stand, little butt out, chubby hands cupped around her mouth shouting for her Yaya. Riley always makes sure to make a big deal, shouting and waving back and pointing out her little sister to the class. When Riley is gone she will nod reach for my hand and is ready to go.

So here's to you, our beloved Yaya for being the best sister a gal could have. And to Maycie for making her work hard for it.

Swordfight

He really likes swords

Everyday I have kids coming to tell me that they have been "accidentally" been hit with a sword. Even Lancelot himself had a gash in his forehead from a sister getting revenge. The other morning I was swordfighting with him ( it was an unfair fight, he had a lightsaber and I was stuck with his Sea World sword) he took a swing at me that could have sliced my head off. When I tried to avoid it I fell backwards over the coffee table.

In short, if you come to my house, bring a shield.......and watch out for coffee tables.

Halloweeners

Coulter wanted to be knight again this year because he got a new sheild for his birthday.

No trick or treating this year. The school had a carnival instead. It was just right, the kids had a lot of fun. There was a cake walk and we walked that darn thing for miles until each kid had won a cake. We ate one, gave one to the neighboor, and froze one. Riley chose one of the cakes we made, she said we worked so hard on it that we deserved to keep it. We did have one trick or treater.

Carve-0-Rama

Our annual pumpkin carving was a success. The only kid who dared to actually clean out their pumkin was Riley. The best part every year is Coulter dry heaving at the sight of Pumpkin guts, made worse this year by Cody pretending to eat them.
